SNAPE WITH THORP PARISH COUNCIL

NEWSLETTER – April 2021

  1. The Parish Council (PC) met on Thursday 29 April. This newsletter provides an update on a number of issues discussed at the meeting.

  1. Outline Planning application for up to 32 houses on the Manor House (Prices Pavings Ltd) site (reference 20/02047/OUT). The determination of the application continues to be delayed. Issues remain highways, flooding and affordable housing. The Parish Council will be holding an open meeting in the Institute at 7pm on 1st June. Further details will be issued before the meeting.

  1. Progress continues to be made on populating the Parish Council’s new websitewww.snapewiththorp.co.uk Five local Groups have already signed up to be included in the website. The website will also include information of parish based businesses; if you wish your business to be included please contact the Clerk on clerk@snapewiththorp.co.uk

  1. The Council continues to explore the possibility of speed activation equipment purchased and shared with other Councils.

  1. The PC has been in communication with NYCC Highways departments about the Carthorpe corner where there have been a number of cycling accidents. Highways have indicated that all signage is compliant with all current regulations so nothing further can be added to the site.

  1. The Council has been successful in its bid to Hambleton District Council (HDC)’s Making a Difference Fund for kerbing to protect the village green. Kerbing on Meadow Lane will now be possible as a consequence of this additional funding. We would respectfully ask all to take care of the verges and greens to avoid any further damage and erosion.

  1. The volunteer group who have been undertaking maintenance around the village spend Friday morning from 9am to 10am clearing the beck of weed. Further volunteers are welcome.
  2. Two residents have found bags of dog dirt deposited in their gardens. The Council has contacted HDC’s Dog Warden, who has confirmed that this practice is littering and is an enforceable offence. He suggests recording times, dates it happened, and a description of the culprit if it is witnessed. Video evidence would be very helpful. Residents who witness this are encouraged to report the offence directly to HDC on 01609 779977. It will then be passed on to the Dig Warden.

  1. Two residents litter pick on a regular basis; the Council is grateful for their efforts. HDC are providing two notices to remind visitors to take their litter home with them. These should be in place soon.

  1. A proposal was received from the newly formed Snape Climate and Conservation Group to leave some grass unmown until the wild flower seeds are set. The Council has agreed, in principle, that the grass between the new trees on the north side of the avenue could remain uncut at present.

  1. The Council will be holding the Open Parish Meeting on 17 May at 7pm in the Village Institute. This is your opportunity to hear from the Council the work they have been undertaking over the last two years and to question the Council on parish matters. Covid 19 measures will be followed.

  1. Meetings of the Council will revert to being held face-to-face and normally in the village Institute.

  1. If you have any queries or comments to make regarding the Parish Council please contact the Clerk.
