SNAPE WITH THORP PARISH COUNCIL

NEWSLETTER – April 2023

  • The Parish Council (PC) met on 5 April.  This newsletter provides an update on a number of issues discussed at the meeting and other matters of general interest.

  • Outline Planning application for up to 32 houses on the Manor House (Prices Pavings and Tile Ltd) site (reference 20/02047/OUT).   The application is currently delayed due to issues regarding flooding.

  • The Vehicle Activated Equipment will be returning to Snape from Well in a few weeks’ time.

  • Removal of weed in the beck – you will have noticed that volunteers have done sterling work removing the weed in the beck; this is done to reduce the risk of flooding as during heavy rainfall the weed can loosen and block the beck where pipes cross the beck and at the Marina bridge.  Many thanks to those involved in doing this work on behalf of the community.

  • The Council has completed the repairs to the fence in the Avenue using volunteer help. This in-house project has saved a significant amount of money for the Parish Council.

  • The Council has again approved a no mow area between the young trees and the fence in the Avenue.  The remainder of the avenue will continue to be mowed, including between the old trees after the daffodils die back.

  • The white metal bridges need re-painting including pre-painting preparation.  If you would like to volunteer for this project please contact the Clerk.  Paint will be provided by the Council.

  • In the past, areas of the village have been planted with daffodils; these have reduced considerably over the years and the Council will be purchasing more bulbs to plant around the village in autumn.

  • Following an audit of the village by two Parish Councillors, a number of issues eg signpost defects and poor road surfaces will be raised with Highways.

  • Dog fouling on footpaths or inappropriately disposing of dog dirt, and stray dogs, are offences for which a fine can be received.  Report offences to the Dog Warden on 01609 788103/07912775072.

  • The Council will be considering a suitable project to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. The Institute Committee will be holding a village afternoon tea on May 8th (information has already been circulated about this event).

  • The Annual Parish Open Meeting will be held on 18 April at 6.00 in the Schoolroom, Snape Methodist Church. There will be a report of Parish Council activities during the year and the opportunity to ask questions of, and raise issues with, the Parish Council.  Do come along.

  • Superfast broadband from Quickline will be coming to Snape later in the year as part of a collaboration with NYCC and the UK Government.  Watch out for further communications and information from Quickline on this project.

  • PC meetings are always open for members of the public to attend unless the Council advises otherwise.  If you have any queries or comments to make regarding the Parish Council please contact the Clerk.                                                              John Duck, Chairman
